| The Kitchen - Country style living in the heart of the city |
The heart of any home is the kitchen and here the Connolly’s have created a warm ambiance by embracing the natural historic character of the home.
“It wasn’t easy”, says Bob. “We had to literally rip everything out back to the bare walls and joists, and rebuild, blending the new with the old. So while the original stairs remain, all new 6 inch pine plank floors were installed, along with pine board ceilings and new post and beam supports. “Almost everything is new, yet it has old world charm” says Bea. “We can relax in the comfort of a new home with modern conveniences and it feels like we are on vacation at a lodge in the countryside yet we are only fifteen minutes from downtown Toronto.”
Bea and Bob have traveled the world making travelogue films, and have come to appreciate how homes several hundred years old are modernized and adapted to suit the times. “The ‘teardown attitude’ which prevails in North America just isn’t practiced in Europe, where old buildings are constantly being restored and revitalized with healthy living in mind.”
Their home features a high efficiency central forced air heating and cooling system with additional silent ductless air conditioning. All of the plumbing is new and features a high capacity central water purification system that removes all of the chlorine. An industrial distiller is used for drinking water. All new electrical wiring from a 200 amp service, a central vac. system, high speed internet and satellite services have all been built into the home. |
